Medicago is a world leader in lectin production, widely renowned for superb product quality and one of the highest production capacities in the market, with the ability to deliver up to kilogram scale. We have all the knowledge and resources necessary to keep a wide and dynamic product range, developing novel lectin products as new demand arises. We can also provide customized versions of most of our listed standard lectin products, including Biotin and FITC conjugation.
Lectins occur naturally in numerous legumes around the world. Their sugar specificities, including the ability to selectively bind unique glycoproteins covering the surfaces of viruses and bacteria, make them very useful as ligands in affinity chromatography or as targeting probes for labelling and histochemistry.
These factors make lectins an essential research substance and production component for vaccines, vaccine adjuvants and many other pharmaceuticals. Given the importance of lectins in e.g. immunological and pharmaceutical research and development, the high product quality delivered by Medicago is of the essence.
Selection of the right starting mateirals strongly influences the quality of the final lectin product. At Medicago, we maintain all starting materials and monitor a small number of trusted suppliers to ensure best quality when we start production of a lectin. Processing and preparation of starting materials is completed at our plant in Uppsala, Sweden
In addition to ensuring top quality of raw materials, Medicago excels in ensuring excellent production from start to finish for any of our products. Our lectins are purified using affinity chromatography techniques optimized over years to guarantee our lectins possess high proportions of active sugar-binding moieties relative to inactive ones.
Lectin activity is assayed in-house and documented with a certificate of analysis for every delivery as quality assurance of performance. Our lectins are produced according to protocols which have been fine-tuned over decades, underscoring their branding as ActiveLectins™.
Preserving product quality all the way to an end application is challenging for any lectin suppplier. Thankfully, our freeze drying facilities are some of the largest in the Nordic region and produce our lectins in readily packaged powders. Our freeze dried powdered form of lectin eliminates any special handling for an otherwise fluid solution.
